Present: Heather, Steve, Chris, Susannah

apologies from: Julie, Craig, Jenny

Feedback from First 2 Screenings

Two screenings at Meersbrook and Nether Edge. Both went well with audiences of 20 and 25 respectively. Some tech problems with Nether Edge delayed the start of the film. Must get sorted for next time.

Next film screenings

Projector still not confirmed for Nether Edge. Waiting for confirmation from Community Forum projector. If this is not available then backups from the Burngreave one (Susannah) or Meersbrook (we'll have to pay though!)

Short films: Heather suggested Women on the Planet which features Annie Lennox?. Steve suggested a clip from the show Fast Money where the audience gets a bit more than it bargained for when Energy Investment banker Matt Simmons advices Americans to move out into villages and start growing their own food.

Chris suggested trying to get a DVD quality version of the Rob Hopkins talk. Heather will try to find one.

Publicity

Inviting our councillors to these screenings. Susannah will put flyers in pigeon holes.

Heather suggested getting the Muslim community involved via the big Mosque. She will try to speak to women. Steve volunteered to speak to the men if the opportunity arose.

Susannah mentioned other possibilities: Black Environmental Network being an obvious candidate. Also the Yemeni Community Centre, and the Children's Centre.

Radio: Steve, Susannah and Craig all said they would be willing to speak on the radio. So far The Green Friendly & Different Show on Sheffield Live has said they'd like us but no confirmed dates yet. It might also be possible to get onto Radio Sheffield, Ronnie Robinson Show was suggested. We need to phone them. Steve will take this on.

Registering ourselves as a Transition Town

We thought this would be a good idea if not too much trouble. We would be a "Temporary Initiating Hub" rather than a "Local Transition Initiative" or a "Local Transition Hub" see here for more info: http://transitiontowns.org/TransitionNetwork/Criteria . Craig had previously agreed to fill the form in. To complete this we need to send info of our core group members to him with sections of:

  • Name
  • Short bit about ourselves
  • How long we've lived in our community.

National Transition Town Events

We discussed national Transition Town initiatives coming up.

  • There is a national training event in Leicester. Craig has signed up for this though it's now full.
  • There is also a training course for trainers in Chesterfield on Nov 15-16th. Heather is going.
  • There is a conference for Transition Cities in Nottingham on 27-28 November. No need to book a place.

Off the Shelf [2] is a writers/readers festival in Sheffield. Might be a good place to advertise ourselves. There are many talks. Other stuff

Chesterfield Transition Town seem to be going well with 150 people turn out for their supper. (or was it only 50?) We need to make contact with them sometime.
