Hub Meeting at New Roots 11 May 2009
Present: Chris, Steve, Jenny, Ronin, Susannah, Sally (Crookes)
Apologies: Heather, Craig
These notes taken by Ronin, typed up by Steve.
1. Publicity
Susannah & Ronin had a brief meeting to start the Publicity theme group. It was agreed that we needa basic Transition Sheffield leaflet. Somethe that was general and would not go out of date. This could be one side of and A5 which would allow local groups to put their publicity and contacts on the other side.
The writing and typesetting and printing of the leaflet may take some time. Unclear as yet what size pring run needed.
Susannah has completed a draft of a contact card.
A design for a banner has been developed by Ronin and Ali Budon??. This still needs a lot of work.
A4 posters for local shops would still be useful.
Publicity group to meet again soon. Ronin away for 2 weeks. Need new people in group: announce to list for help.
2. Stalls at Events
We would like to have some stalls at as many of the local festivals as possible. Investigate the possibility of sharing with allied groups: SCACC, Sheffield Renewables, Grow Sheffield, WDM.
- Peace in the Park 2009 - 6th June
- Sharrow Festival 2009 - 4th July
- Abbeyfield Festival ??
- Green Fair 2009 - 27th June
- Ruskin Park Funday
- Heeley Festival 2009 - June
Put a list of these and other on website and encourage people to sign up to staff them
3. Raising Awareness - Films
Films have gone very well. They have kept groups going. They do not seem to be attracting new people now. Maybe a more structured debate after the film could pick up more on people's energy.
Films will be a part of the ongoing awareness raising.
Steve is keen to run films at the Universities. Crookes Walkley, Burngreave and perhaps Porter Valley groups to set up film screenings for the autumn.
Green Drinks are showing the Age of Stupid
Steve to follow up showing at the Showroom. They will require a long lead to list in brochure. Suggestions: What a Way to Go and Blind Spot and Farm for a Future.
4. Training and Learning Opportunities
Jenny to investigate with Transition HQ about the possibility of setting up a 10 or 12 week course for an evening per week, covering aspects of Transition.
Local groups to facilitate training. Using already organisations to run Transition Workshops eg. Heeley City Farm, SYEC, Low Impact Living ???, Access Space.
Could also encourage people with stalls to share them.
Could arrange a matching meeting people with stalls speed date with those who want to run? them.
A list of stalls people on the wiki and contact details.
5. Theme Days
A series of catalysing events has been suggested as a way to get the movers and shakers together in Sheffield and facilitate the dialogue to prepare people for peak oil/climate change.
We have agreed to have four events a year shared with Grow Sheffield.
Gareth wants to hold a conference of food. So a day in autumn on feeding Sheffield without fossil fuels or similar.
Ronin to contact Vanessa from Grow Sheffield. Hub group to speak to Gareth.
Other suggestions for Energy, Transport days late on in year.

The Hub page on the wiki to have accounts listed.
8. Web site
A number of people finding adding their names to lists difficult.
Website does not have security certificate as the web infrastructure is that? have to pay about £60 per year so that common browsers don't post warnings.
