Proposed Principles of the Hazelhurst CSA Coop

Proposed Principles and aims of the Hazelhurst CSA coop as agreed at the Committee Meeting 20th April 2010:

  • We aim to provide land for organic food production for the explicit purpose of a community supported agriculture project, for the benefit of the local communities of Sheffield and surrounding area.
  • For the medium term the focus will be on horticulture production.
  • We will grow and trade healthy, affordable, organic food using ecologically sound methods.
  • We will minimize the use of oil consumption and develop renewable energy sources.
  • The project will be developed in ways that protect and encourage biodiversity and wildlife.
  • It will provide local employment at fair rates of pay in safe working conditions.
  • We will work to become financially sustainable.
  • To pioneer a new economic model based on mutual benefit and shared risk and ensure that the farmers have a decent livelihood.
  • We will encourage community involvement and engagement in food growing and distribution, promoting a sense of community around the project.
  • This community will be fully inclusive. People from all backgrounds, abilities, income groups and experiences are welcome to join.
  • We will promote education in projects running on the site emphasizing the importance of localised food production.
  • We will be open and transparent in our affairs, making decisions on the basis of consensus wherever possible and striving towards social justice.
  • We will promote community supported agriculture to other communities and farms, learn from established CSAs and in the future share our learning (both economic and farming).
  • We will work co-operatively with neighbouring farms and other enterprises that share our principles.

  • To grow and trade healthy, affordable, organic food to create a more resilient and inclusive food region for Sheffield.
  • Promote community involvement and engagement in food growing and distribution and education in projects running on the site, promoting a sense of community around the project.
  • To be fully inclusive. People from all backgrounds, abilities, income groups and experiences are welcome to join. This applies to employees, volunteers and members.
  • Provide local employment.
  • As part of community learning, we encourage practical involvement on all levels.
  • To be transparent in our affairs, make decisions on the basis of consensus wherever possible and strive towards social justice.

We aim to: bring people together who want to re-learn what a natural season is; boost the local economy and promote local producers; make fresh organic produce more widely available; celebrate the diversity of local food against the insanity of transporting food around the world; pool our resources to create a clearer local demand for seasonal produce.

Totnes Food Group

Aims & objectives The Food Group is working to strengthen the resilience of Totnes and the surrounding district in the area of food. We aim to work closely with the farming and business community to develop a relocalised food infrastructure as well as encouraging individual and community action to grow our own food. We are currently agreeing our group's aims and objectives which will be posted here soon

Stroud Community Agriculture

The guiding principles of Stroud Community Agriculture:

The Community Co-operative is bound by a set of principles established by the members at an early public meeting.

The principles are:

  1. To support organic and biodynamic agriculture.
  2. To pioneer a new economic model based on mutual benefit and shared risk and ensure that the farmers have a decent livelihood.
  3. To be fully inclusive. Low income shall not exclude anyone.
  4. To encourage practical involvement on all levels.
  5. To be transparent in all our affairs. To make decisions on the basis of consensus wherever possible. To strive towards social justice.
  6. To offer opportunities for learning, therapy and re-connecting with the life of the earth.
  7. To network with others to promote community supported agriculture to other communities and farms and share our learning (both economic and farming).
  8. To encourage members, in co-operation with the farmers, to use the farm for their individual and social activities and celebrations.
  9. To develop a sense of community around the farm.
  10. To work co-operatively with other enterprises that share our principles.

Exeter Community Agriculture: Aims & Principles

Mission statement

Exeter Community Agriculture aims to reconnect local people with the land, by involving them in the production of their own locally grown food. ECA will also strive to create learning opportunities, relating to sustainable land use and especially food production.

  4. To raise awareness of the benefits of producing locally grown, healthy food in a way which cares for the environment and encourages diversity of wildlife.
  5. To raise awareness of the importance of localizing food supply and production.
  6. To encourage healthy living, through physical participation in activities on site and through the production and consumption of fresh organic produce.
  7. To facilitate the learning and the sharing of skills.
